Energy Sustainability Plan
Supporting the Climate Action Plan
The purpose of the Energy Sustainability Plan is to foster informed energy management decisions by Metropolitan through the development of a framework of sustainable actions focused on energy cost containment, reliability, affordability, conservation and adaptation – now and into the future. The plan identifies potential options including renewable energy, energy storage systems like batteries and various energy efficiency measures. These options were evaluated using an innovative and holistic multi-phase planning approach comprising a multi-criteria decision analysis (MDA). The MDA compares the relative performance of options based on considerations that go beyond costs alone and a detailed scenario analysis that effectively “stress tests” each option under a range of plausible future conditions based on the key energy market drivers. This plan also identifies new approaches to work with energy utilities and programs within the water industry that support California’s goals for climate change resiliency.
